How to Kill Bugs on Aloe Vera Plants

Aloe vera is a succulent houseplant and known for its healing properties for centuries. Many gardeners love keeping this plant in their surroundings and they bring it outside to spend some time in the sun. Unfortunately, exposing this plant to the sun for long hours attracts pests and diseases. They easily get attracted to eat the leaves and suck the moisture from within. Aphids, mites, and other bugs find aloe Vera’s bounty irresistible. So, it’s important to know how to kill the bugs and to keep them away for good.

There are several ways to get rid of these bugs or pests of aloe vera plants, many of which do not require the use of pesticides.

Here is a step by step process to kill bugs on aloe vera plants.

Things You Need:

  • Pruning Shears
  • Cotton Swab
  • Insect Sticky tape
  • Insecticide

What You Need To Do:

Step 1:

Remove all dead or curled leaves from your aloe vera plant using pruning shears. They are called culprits and that’s the reason why bugs are in the first place. They can also attract when you overwater the plant.

Step 2:

Now, spray the plant with a strong stream of water to prevent the remaining pests. Or you can also spray it with an insecticide solution and make sure it gets into the ridges of the plant and near the base as well.

Step 3:

Hang yellow stick bug tape near the aloe vera plant to trap adult fungus gnats and flies that find ways to reach your plant.

Step 4:

Wipe down the leaves using a soft cloth to remove any dead bugs and use your fingernails to remove scale insects that are still present or latched on to your plant.

Step 5:

Periodically wipe down the leaves with a clean and soft cloth to remove dust, dead leaves, and rotting leaves.
