
Aloe vera is one of the most popular succulents and known for its healing properties. According to the University of Maryland Medical Centre, aloe is the frequently prescribed medicine throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The fresh gel of the aloe plant is harvested from the center of each leaf and a common ingredient for many cosmetics.
Aloe vera creams, ointments, gels contain a clear gel that found in aloe vera leaf. Generally, these products can be applied topically on your skin to treat various skin conditions. If you have your own aloe vera plant then you can directly use that fresh gel for many uses.
All you need to do is, break fresh aloe vera leaf from the aloe vera plant as close to the stem. Lay this leaf on the cutting board and slice away both the ends, trim off the spiky edges too.
Now, you can see the layer of gel trapped between the two sides of the skin. Slowly hold the leaf in place with one hand on the top layer of skin and carefully cut off the top layer of skin using a sharp knife, then set the aloe skin aside.
Blend the aloe vera gel as part of a smoothie, or gently rub the skin of aloe on your sunburns or other mild irritations to moisture and soothe. This reduces the waste because the gel that remained inside the leaf skin.
Can You Apply Aloe Vera Gel Directly From The Plant?
The answer is not really yes or no. You cannot use aloe vera gel straight from the plant, because not everyone is comfortable with something that is applied to their skin. Despite the fact, that aloe vera is such a powerful ingredient that soothes all types of skin irritations, it still causes allergic reactions for several people.
You should never try anything on your skin, first make sure to do a patch test and wait for few minutes to see if there is any reaction or not, then try using it.
Aloe vera contains a substance called emodin viscous liquid which is yellow in color and has a bitter taste. So, this substance stimulates the skin when applied and causes an allergic reaction, if it often causes a tingly sensation on your skin.
Note:
Never apply aloe vera gel on open wounds and make sure to avoid it taking internally. Aloe vera internally may interact with diuretics and all types of medications. Consult your doctor before including it in your regular routine.
